SMS tracking · Android · Optional

Your bank alerts, already in your expenses.

With your permission, Expeniqo checks the bank and payment alerts on your Android phone and adds the transactions for you. Personal messages are ignored, and message text never leaves your phone.

How it works

From alert to expense — with you in the loop.

Clear payments are added straight away. Anything Expeniqo isn't sure about waits for you.

  1. 01

    An alert arrives

Your bank or UPI app sends a payment SMS.

  2. 02

    Checked on your phone

Expeniqo looks for transaction alerts. Personal messages are ignored.

  3. 03

    A transaction is found

It reads the amount, merchant and date, and suggests a category.

  4. 04

    Not sure? It waits

Unclear payments go to Needs Review instead of your totals.

  5. 05

    It counts

Confirmed payments become part of your budget and reports.

What's saved

The transaction is saved. The message isn't.

Messages are checked on your phone. For each transaction, only these details go to your Expeniqo account, with a one-way fingerprint that stops the same alert being added twice — never the SMS text.

Needs Review

When it isn't sure, it asks.

Bank alerts don't always name the merchant clearly. Rather than guess, Expeniqo marks the payment “Not sure” and keeps it out of your totals until you decide.

  • See the amount, date and SMS sender for each one
  • Pick the right category, then Confirm
  • Ignore anything that isn't a real expense

Privacy

What Expeniqo reads — and what it doesn't.

SMS access is sensitive. This is exactly what it's used for.

Uses

  • Bank and payment alert SMS — debits, UPI payments, card spends and credits
  • The amount, merchant, date and sender ID (for example VM-HDFCBK) of each transaction

Doesn't

  • Upload or share the text of your messages
  • Use personal messages — they're ignored
  • Check messages while the app is closed — new alerts are picked up the next time you open it
  • Connect to your bank account or move money

You're in control

Helpful, not pushy.

  • Optional, and you can turn it off

Expeniqo explains what it reads before Android asks for permission. Say no and everything else still works. Turn it off any time.

  • No double counting

Alerts that are already in your account are recognised and skipped, so re-syncing doesn't add the same payment twice.

  • Money in, too

Credit alerts are recorded as Credit, so your reports can show money in next to what you spent.

  • Teach it a merchant

Move an “Others” payment to the right category and Expeniqo can apply it to that merchant's past payments and future SMS.

SMS tracking is available in the Android app only. You can always add expenses manually or scan receipts instead.

FAQ

SMS tracking questions

How does SMS tracking work?

SMS tracking is optional and only starts after you allow it. Expeniqo checks the SMS on your phone for bank and payment transaction alerts. Personal messages are ignored. For each transaction it finds, the amount, merchant, date, category and sender ID (for example VM-HDFCBK) are saved to your Expeniqo account, along with a one-way fingerprint that stops the same message being recorded twice.

The text of your messages is never uploaded or shared. Messages are checked while Expeniqo is open; alerts that arrive while it's closed are added the next time you open the app.

Can I use Expeniqo without SMS access?

Yes. SMS tracking is optional. You can add expenses manually or scan receipts instead, and you can turn SMS tracking off at any time.

What is Needs Review?

Some payment messages are ambiguous. When Expeniqo isn't sure about one, it doesn't guess — the payment waits in Needs Review, marked “Not sure”. You can change the category and confirm it, or ignore it. Payments in Needs Review aren't counted in your totals until you confirm them.

Let your payment alerts do the typing.
